Courtship (BettaMorph)

Picture
#2014948
Concept to Creation
FDMj Signature.
5x7" base. Approx. 8.5" tall.
size reference.
Kingsley's a BettaMorph and his life is one of constant surprise and danger. Living in the waters of Thailand and being a Betta, makes for a constant life of high alert. Kingsley is attempting to attract a female here by looking impressive with his expression, pose, and it doesn't hurt that his fins are as colorful as they are. Although Kingsley must be alert and on-guard at all times due to other Male Bettas, he's a surprisingly thoughtful and considerate BettaMorph. Let's wish him the best in finding a mate, huh ?

This piece has a base diameter of 5” and is 7.5” high from the bottom of the base to the top of the sculpture. Kingsley is removable from the base and stand as is the base arm. The Sea plants are not removable. His hair is Black mohair, cut, styled and set in place. His eyes are handmade Teal Green inset eyes to compliment his tail and his eyebrows are made of mohair of the same color. He has detailed hands and his torso is blushed with heat-set paints. His skin-tone is a my own clay mix of Raspberry FIMO and ProSculpt to add to the piece’s uniqueness. The tail is painted with mixed Acrylics and set in place. Black glitter added to the fins.

He’s uniquely signed with the FDMj Creations “F” on his upper-right shoulder.

Betta Facts
  • Betta prefer a warmer water climate than other tropical fish - around 77-86 Degrees.
  • Betta fish have an organ known as the labyrinth organ which allows them to breathe air at the water's surface.
  • In the wild, Bettas spar for only a few minutes or so before one fish backs off.
  • AKA Siamese fighting fish.
  • Siamese fighting fish have upturned mouths and are primarily carnivorous surface feeders, although some vegetable matter may be eaten.
  • In the wild, they feed on zooplankton, crustaceans, the larvae of mosquitoes and other water bound insect larvae.
  • These fish will also eat live or frozen bloodworms, mosquito larvae, brine shrimp, daphnia, small freshwater shrimp, and small fishes.
  • Have been affectionately nicknamed "The Jewel of the Orient" due to their beauty and wide range of colors which are produced through selective breeding.
  • Males and females flare or puff out their gill covers (opercula) in order to appear more impressive, either to intimidate other rivals or as an act of courtship.
  • Although commonly called a betta, especially in North America, that is the name of a genus not only containing this fish, but also other species. B. splendens is more accurately called by its scientific name or Siamese fighting fish, to avoid confusion with the other species in the genus.
